The 2012 Fall Open House at the UAHuntsville Library will be on Thursday September 6^th from 10am-2pm.  We are planning on having snacks, drinks, a scavenger hunt, as well as plenty of giveaways. We will also be giving away a Nook Color, which you can win just by visiting the library!

In conjunction with the Library Open House, we would like to showcase faculty publications. Please contact Belinda Ong or Anne Coleman if you have recent publications that you would like the library to include in the showcase.

Other activities scheduled include a presentation on our subject-specific databases and OneSearch, the tool to search books, journals and more in one place provided by a reference librarian in Room 125 during Open House hours.

Faculty/Staff/Alumni are invited to the open house reception. Librarians will be available to provide Library tours upon request.  A librarian or TAG staff member will also be available to answer any questions related to library resources or TAG services.

Come join us around the UAHuntsville campus for International Festival week from September 24^th-29^th.  Here is an overview of the events planned:

Monday September 24^th:

• Lunch and Lecture titled “Nicaragua and Religion” with Dr. Anne Marie Choup, Associate Professor UAH Department of Political Science.   This will be in BAB 229 from 11:30am-1:00pm.

Tuesday September 25^th:

• Lecture titled “Violence against Women:  Addressing Global Health Issues and Evidence-Based Practice for Policy Development.”  This presentation will provide a global view of the health issues related to violence against women with a focus on policy development and will take place in the Chan Auditorium at 7:00pm.

Wednesday September 26^th:

• Countries Exhibition and Cooking Demonstrations in the Salmon Library Art Gallery from 11:00-1:00pm.  The featured countries will be China and Vietnam, so come learn some more about these countries while sampling authentic Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine!
• Spanish Poetry Recitations at 4:30pm in Roberts Recital Hall.  Dr. Benito del Pliego will offer a bilingual poetry reading to include examples of his collaborations with visual artists, as well as samples of his object-poems. This reading will be followed by an open conversation with the audience about Spanish literature and culture.
• Study Abroad and Foreign Languages Showcase from 6:00-8:00pm in the University Center Exhibit Hall.  Learn more about the great opportunities available for students at UAHuntsville regarding study abroad and careers in foreign languages from other students who have had these experiences.

Thursday September 27^th:

• International Film Screening:  Indian movie “Three Idiots” will be screened in Salmon Library in Room 111 at 6:00pm.  An Indian engineering college is turned upside down by the arrival of brilliant, rule-breaking student Rancho (Aamir Khan). Joined by classmates and fellow “idiots” Raju (Sharman Joshi) and Farhan (Madhavan), Rancho manages to rile the school’s uptight dean (Boman Irani) while wooing his pretty daughter (Kareena Kapoor) in this lively farce, Bollywood’s big box-office hit.

Friday September 28^th:

• Lunch and Lecture titled “Why Culture Matters:  The European Union, the Euro, and the Future of the Global Economy” with Dr. David Johnson, Associate Professor of German and Director of the Global Studies Program at UAH.
• Poetry in Music at the First Baptist Church of Huntsville at 7:30pm.  The UAH Chamber Orchestra and the Huntsville Community Chorus feature Spanish and German poetry in the music of Mahler and Pineda-Huezo.

Saturday September 29^th:

• The Annual 2012 International Festival will take place from 10am-5pm in Spragins Hall.  Free and Open to the Public, it will feature a wealth of global performances; international food; homemade international desserts samples; students activities, and country exhibitions from around the world from nations as diverse as the Philippines, Italy, Hungary, Nigeria, Japan, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Turkey, Russia, Egypt and more.  The Art and Art History department are sponsoring “Far and Away: UAH Students Preserve Memories” at the same time in Spragins Hall.

UAHuntsville’s Week of Welcome (WOW) is a campus-wide set of programs and activities intended to welcome all students back to campus. WOW is packed with social, educational, and informational programs that allow you the opportunity to interact with other UAH students, faculty and staff. It is a great way to make new connections, find your way around campus and get free stuff!
