Dr. Paz-Soldan at UAH

Bolivian author Edmundo Paz-Soldan will visit UAH early this semester. He will give a talk entitled “Between North and South” on Jan. 18 at 7:30 pm in Morton Hall 200 as part of the Global Studies Forum’s “Literature, Culture, and Global Contexts” series. Dr. Paz-Soldan is the author of six novels and two short story collections. His work has been translated into many languages, and he has received several prestigious awards. Dr. Paz-Soldan is also a UAH alumnus. He came here on a soccer scholarship and earned a B.A. in political science in 1991. During his time at UAH, Dr. Paz-Soldan was a circulation student assistant at the Library! He has gone on to complete additional advanced degrees and is currently an Associate Professor of Hispanic Literature at Cornell University.

The UAH Library currently has several of Dr. Paz Soldan’s books on Reserve. Please visit the Circulation desk to check them out on a 1-hour basis. These books will be moved to our regular circulating collection after his visit. Please stop by our display in the front lobby to learn more about this author and his works! Also, feel free to come by during our reception for Dr. Paz-Soldan on Fri. Jan. 19 at 10:00am in the lobby.

E-Info Global Symposium

The date for our 1st Annual E-Info Global Symposium: Information Delivery & E-Access in Academic Libraries is fast approaching! E-Info Global will be held on Thursday Nov. 30 and Friday Dec. 1. Topics to be examined include User-Centered Designs, Federated Search & Digital Management, Measurement & Evaluation of Library Services, Blogs & Social Stuff, International Legal Issues: Distance Education in China, The Future of Distance Degrees Worldwide, The Future of Accredited Library & Information Science Programs, plus Wrap it Up – Market Your Message! Final Library Information Session

We’ll be running one final general library information session this semester:

Tuesday, October 3rd, at 7:00 pm

Just show up at the reference desk and someone will be there to meet you. We’ll go over some library resources, and answer any questions you might have. Plus, we’ll be giving away prizes!

Library Information Sessions

The Library will be offering several introductory information sessions during the month of September. These sessions will feature the Top Ten things you need to know about the Library. During each session, we will be drawing names to give away some great PRIZES, including gift certificates to local restaurants and UAH “flex account” cards with varying amounts of cash loaded on them. Sessions have been scheduled for the following dates and times:

Fall Frolic @ UAH Library

The Library’s 2nd Annual Fall Frolic will be held on Wed. Aug. 30 from 4-5pm. This event will feature free food, building tours, online demos, and more! Representatives from local banks will be on hand to provide information about their services. Information about UAH international organizations, Space Archives, the upcoming E-Info Global Symposium and more will also be provided. We encourage all faculty, staff, and students to kick off the fall semester by attending this exciting event!
