When You
Have the Citation to an Article, Use FINS
FINS is a tool
that quickly lets you know which online full-text journals
are available in which of the many online resources
available at the Salmon Library. FINS cannot search
for articles.
Locating
the journal you need online is not always a simple
process. Is the journal available in one of the full-text
databases, such as Academic Search Elite? Or might
it be available in other services to which the Capella
Library subscribes, such as EBSCO Online, or PubMed?
Finding the answer to these questions has required
users to explore database after database in hopes
of locating the desired journal. The Full text
Information Search (FINS) greatly simplifies this
task.
FINS
is a comprehensive alphabetical listing of full-text
journals which are available to UAH users through
online databases. The FINS database contains over
19,000 entries. Of these, more than 11,000 represent
unique publications. The remaining entries are duplicate
listings, indicating that certain journals are available
from more than one source. For instance, The Journal
of Higher Education appears twice in the list. The
first entry shows that InfoTrac provides full-text
articles from The Journal of Higher Education since
1993. The second entry indicates that full-text articles
from this journal are available through Periodical
Abstracts Research II from 1994 to the present. Included
in the FINS you will find not only full-text 'journals'
but also magazines, newspapers, and other related
publications.
