The NBII web site provides biological data and information maintained by a variety of government agencies and private sector organizations, and includes the NBII Metadata Clearinghouse, a catalog of biological information. This site is searchable.

Biodiversity and Conservation
An informative hypertext book by Peter J. Bryant (School of Biological Sciences, University of California, Irvine), which presents "the origin, nature and value of biological diversity, the threats to its continued existence, and approaches to preserving what is left." A table of recorded extinctions, covering the period from 1600 to 1983, is included.
