ERIC
A comprehensive index to educational materials found in journals and documents. Includes brief abstracts and some full-text through ERIC Digests.  Citations to most "ED" numbers are on microfiche at the Alabama A&M library. Also available off campus from FirstSearch, CSA and Syracuse.

Middle Search Plus

Provides full text from over 100 general reference, health and science magazines. Also offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 210 magazines. FREE: Federal Resources for Educational Excellence
This site is designed for teachers, students and parents to provide easy access to educational resources produced by hundreds of federal agencies. The site is searchable. Resources are also arranged by topic: arts, educational technology, foreign language, vocational education, etc.

Teacher's Net
This searchable site provides networking opportunities through interactive features such as live meetings and conferences, "ChatBoards," and discussions in "The Mentor Center."

Teacher/Pathfinder
Teacher/Pathfinder provides a multitude of online resources for the K-12 teacher and parent, and includes information on distance education, intellectual property, and useful ideas for the classroom. This site is searchable.

National Parent Information Network (NPIN)
Sponsored by ERIC, the NPIN provides "information to parents and those who work with parents and to foster the exchange of parenting materials. Materials included with full text on NPIN have been reviewed for reliability and usefulness." Resources include links to other relevant sites, discussion lists, and a calendar of events. This site is searchable.

Eisenhower National Clearinghouse
The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse promotes reform in teaching methods and disseminates teaching materials. Focus is primarily in science and mathematics education. This site is searchable.

Peterson's Education Center
This searchable site provides information on private schools, colleges, graduate schools, study abroad, summer programs, etc. Search by name, geographic location, field of study, or keyword.

EdWeb Home Page
EdWeb explores issues related to educational reform and information technology.

Educational Technologies (WWW Virtual Library)
In addition to Internet resources, this site reviews educational technology tools and examines issues related to their use.

Developing Educational Standards

National Network: A National Network of Regional Educational Laboratories

The Commission on Higher Education has the statutory responsibility for the overall statewide planning and coordination of higher education in Alabama, the administration of various student aid programs and the performance of designated regulatory functions.

National Commission on Teaching and America's Future

International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX)

Statistics

Data and Story Library (DASL)
"DASL (pronounced 'dazzle') is an online library of datafiles and stories that illustrate the use of basic statistics methods." Teachers looking for examples may search the database in five ways: by "story" title; by statistical method, such as regression or ANOVA; by topic, such as psychology or health; by datafile subject, such as finance or astronomy; or by full-text (all criteria at once).

Education Finance Statistical Center
The "Public School District Finance Peer Search" lets you enter a county name to see graphs and data comparing it to similiar school districts in the state, region, and nation.

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
Mandated by Congress, the NAEP monitors the knowledge, skills, and performance of the nation's children and youth. The site presents objective data about student performance at national, regional, and, on a trial basis, state levels. Full-text documents (PDF files) on general and subject-specific performance (math, reading, etc.) are available.

National Center for Education Statistics
Choose the "Data" option for access to useful searchable databases, such as the "National Public School Locator" may be used to find schools by many criteria.

UNESCO: Statistics on Education
A wealth of data on education worldwide (by country or region). Use the searchable databases to select criteria (enrollment, expenditures, illiteracy, etc.).

U.S. Census Bureau: Education
Tables of statistics on topics such as educational attainment, degree received, field of training, and economic status, school enrollment, and other characteristics crossed by education.

Tests

Buros Institute of Mental Measurements
This organization has long published standard reference sources in the field of tests and measurement. The site provides a searchable database of test descriptions (Test Locator) and references to reviews of tests (Test Review Locator). The search engine used has a "find more link this" feature that assists in discovering related tests. A searchable directory of test publishers is also provided along with links to other related sites.

The Consortium for Equity in Standards and Testing (CTEST)
The organization's mission is to focus "attention on how educational standards, assessments, and tests can be used more fairly." Full-text documents (PDF files), such as the Code of Fair Testing Practices, are available along with "Spotlight Issues" and links to other testing Internet sites.

Educational Testing Service (ETS)
"The Educational Testing Service Network (ETS Net) is a gateway to definitive information about college and graduate school admissions and placement tests, with links to AP, GRE (GRE Online), GMAT, SAT, The Praxis Series, and TOEFL sites, as well as other educational resources. ETS Net provides sample test questions, test preparation, and test registration. It also contains information on ETS research initiatives, teacher certification, college planning, financial aid, and links to college and university sites" (from the web site).

American Center for the Study of Distance Education (ACSDE)
"The American Center for the Study of Distance Education (ACSDE) ...seeks to promote distance education research, study, scholarship, and teaching and to serve as a clearinghouse for the dissemination of knowledge about distance education." Includes subscription information for The American Journal of Distance Education, as well as information on monographs, conferences, etc.

Distance Education and Training Council
"The Distance Education and Training Council (formerly the National Home Study Council) is a non profit educational association located in Washington, D.C. DETC serves as a clearinghouse of information about the distance study/correspondence field and sponsors a nationally recognized accrediting agency called the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council."

Distance Learning on the Net
Included are descriptions of distance education web sites, along with links to distance education resources. Each resource listed has been selected for its overall quality and reputation.

Globewide Network Academy (GNA)
GNA's distance learning catalog has over 15,000 courses and programs from kindergarten to doctoral programs. Includes the Virtual Education Gazette, a monthly online newsletter on virtual education.

Instructional Telecommunications Council
"The Instructional Telecommunications Council, ITC, is a national, non-profit organization composed entirely of, and directed toward meeting the needs of, educators and organizations involved in higher education instructional telecommunications and distance learning."

University Continuing Education Association

PBS Adult Learning Service
