  • Bureau of Economic Analysis
    The BEA offers enormous amounts of data both in print and online. See especially the BEA Data section to find national income and product accounts (GDP, personal income, etc.), balance of payments accounts, U.S. direct investment abroad, and foreign direct investment in the United States, and state personal income data.

  • Bureau of Labor Statistics
    An excellent site for current data on employment, production, and consumer information. Nearly all of the printed BLS publications (and more) can be found, in some form, at the BLS site, and are often more up-to-date than the printed copies that are housed in the library.

  • Census Bureau
    The Census Bureau's Internet site offers a huge collection of information. Users can browse a lengthy alphabetic list of subjects for which information can be found at the Census site, or perform a search. Additional information can be found at the CenStats portion of the web site. Among the information available is County Business Patterns, USA Counties, Annual Survey of Manufacturers, ZIP Business Patterns, Census Tract Street Locator, Building Permits, International Trade Information, and Consolidated Federal Funds Report. CenStats requires a password; contact Government Documents (1727) or Reference (1368) staff for assistance.

  • Consumer Confidence
    This is from the Dismal Scientist web site. Only a few years are available here. The consumer confidence data originates with the Conference Board, which surveys 5000 households each month to establish the consumer confidence index.

  • Compensation & Working Conditions (L 2.44/2:)
    Statistical summaries on salaries, wages and benefits in each issue, including the employer cost of labor- Employment Cost Index (ECI) Published quarterly (was monthly).

  • County and City Data Book (Docs CD- C 3.134/2:C83/2/)
    Offers stats for every U.S.county, for 1,078 cities, and for 11,097 places with populations over 2,500. Information on labor, income, and banking can be located in the County and City Data Book.

  • County Business Patterns (Docs CD- C 3.204:)
    Published each year, with a volume for each state. Data reported includes employment, payrolls, and number of establishments.

  • CPI Detailed Report (L 2.38/3: )
    The CPI has two major components: the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) and the Consumer Price Index for Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). Statistical information can be found for: U.S. city averages, regions (Northeast, North Central, South, West), selected local areas, and population size classes. Statistics include: detailed expenditure categories (transportation, medical care, apparel, housing); seasonally adjusted expenditure categories (commodity, service groups); historical information; and average prices (food, energy). Issued every month.

  • Current Population Reports (C 3.236: )
    A series of publications that deal with various aspects of all or selected groups of the U.S. population. Among the topics are income and poverty.

  • Economic Indicators (Periodicals)
    Each month the most consulted statistics are compiled in Economic Indicators. Data on income, spending, productivity, credit, security markets, employment, and much more can be found in this publication. Economic Indicators is also available at GPO Access.

  • Economic Statistics Briefing Room
    Choose among the following areas to link to various government sites offering current economic information: Output; Income; Employment, Unemployment, and Earnings; Production and Business Activity; Prices, Money, Credit, and Securities Markets; Transportation; and International Statistics. This is a particularly useful site as it links to information produced across the federal government.

  • Economic Time Series Page
    Compiled by Ted Bos, this sites claims to brings together over 68,000 series of data. Many of the series are available as Excel files. To locate the data you need, you can check out the most requested series, look at he data in chart format, or perform a search, among other options.

  • Employment and Earnings
    Statistical information can be found for households; establishments; and regional, state, and area labor force. Statistics include labor force data, average hours, and average earnings.

  • Fedstats
    An excellent site, Fedstats pulls together statistical data from over 70 federal agencies- all at one location.

  • FDIC Historical Statistics on Banking 1934-1996 (Ref. HG 2493 .H57)
    Includes financial data on commercial banks and saving banks, as well as information on closed and failed banks.

  • FDIC Statistics on Banking (Ref. HG 2401 .S76)
    This annual publication offers structural and financial data on commercial and savings banks each year.

  • FRED- Federal Reserve Economic Data
    The FRED web site is maintained by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. It offers recent data and publications, as well as historical tables for daily/weekly U.S. financial data, commercial banking data, Gross Domestic Product, Consumer Price Indexes, Producer Price Indexes, employment, population data, exchange rate and balance of payments, and more.

  • The Finanacial Data Finder
    An extensive alphabetic listing of government and non-government Internet sites. This site is maintained by Ohio State University.

  • International Trade Administration
    The ITA web site includes statistical information relating to trade and industry, as well as much more information.

  • International Trade Commission
    The ITC provides several publications online, including the Harmonized Schedule of Tariffs, and the International Economic Review.

  • National Trade Data Bank
    NTDB offers an enormous amount of publications concerning trade and foreign countries from dozens of federal agencies.

  • Producer Price Indexes
    Contains extensive data on price movements at the primary market level. Statistics are reported by stage of processing (finished goods, intermediate materials, crude materials), commodity, and the output of selected industries. Along with statistical tables, a textual summary of price movements is given each month.

  • Regional Economic Information System 1969-1994
    This database offers employment and earnings at the metropolitan area, county, and state levels.

  • Geospatial and Statistical Data Center
    Created by the University of Virginia Library, a number of databases are available here. Especially useful is the interactive data section, where you can find the County and City DataBook, NIPA data, Regional Economic Information System, State Personal Income, World Tables of Economic and Social Indicators, and County Business Patterns.

  • State Personal Income 1969-1995
    SPI offers detailed information on employment and income at the state level.

  • Statistical Abstract of the United States
    Published each year, this is one of the most consulted government publications. The Statistical Abstract offers basic data on thousands of subjects. It is a good place to begin looking for data, as you can refer to the sources cited by the Statistical Abstract. The most recent edition is in the Documents Reference area, all previous editions are shelved in the general stacks under HA .

  • STAT-USA
    STAT-USA offers the latest data from the Commerce Department. The subject matter deals, primarily, with trade, economic news and statistics, and information regarding business opportunities. STAT-USA requires a password and can be used in library only. See the Reference Librarian for assistance.

  • Survey of Current Business
    A monthly publication from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Among the information offered are NIPA (National Income & Product Accounts) tables, personal income data, and statistics on international transactions.

  • Treasury Bulletin
    Published quarterly, The Treasury Bulletin offers articles on current issues as well as statistics on federal finances and related information.

  • USDA Economic Research Service
    The Economic Research Service offers databases and periodicals online. Subject coverage includes credit, agricultural trade, prices, income, and more.

  • U.S. Foreign Trade Highlights
    Offers in-depth information on United States international trade in goods and services.
