SUGGESTIONS FOR EFFECTIVE LIBRARY RESEARCH
To ensure that the Salmon Library/Turnitin instruction session for your class is successful, we offer these suggestions:
•Complete the Instruction Request form here. At a minimum, 14 days' notice is required so that the librarian will have adequate time for preparation. Confirmation will be sent via e-mail with the location, date, time & librarian.
•Contact the librarian to discuss your class assignment(s) with them.
•Connect the library session to a specific class assignment or project. If possible, set objectives and make them clear to students; for example, "After this library session, you will be able to locate the information necessary to support your argument."
•Schedule the session close to the time when students will need to use the Library. Consider scheduling the session after students have done some preliminary research so they can come with problems or questions.
•Give a copy of the class assignment and/or syllabus in advance to the reference librarian who will be meeting with your class.
•The instructor must be present. Add your comments and questions during the library session in an attempt to make the session as interactive and problem-based as possible.
