Feeling stressed about finals? Therapy Dogs are coming!

If finals have you all stressed out, go to the UC Lobby to spend some time relaxing with the dogs from Therapy Partners!  They will be here this Thursday, Dec. 1, from 11-1 in the UC Lobby.  Therapy Partners will be bringing their specially-trained dogs to help reduce anxiety and stress. Event: Country Exhibition

Description: Poster presentations by UAHuntsville International Programs or International Student Organizations that highlight a country/region or their mission abroad or on campus.

Event: Harvest Dinner
Date: Monday,  November 14, 2011, 4:30-7:30 PM
Location: Baptist Student Center, 450 Sparkman Dr.
Description: A full Thanksgiving dinner provided with the support of the Department of  Housing, the International Student and Scholar Office, and numerous other volunteers across campus and in the Huntsville community.  The holiday gathering allows the student and scholar community a way to experience the holiday season with their UAHuntsville family.  RSVP required so visit our IEW Facebook Page.

Event: UAHuntsville Without Borders: Intercultural Exchange Forum
Date: Tuesday, November 15, 2011, 11:10 AM – 12:30 PM
Location: Frank Franz Hall 138 (Multipurpose Room)
Description: Come share and learn about UAH’s international spirit! UAH international students will discuss and display their countries, cultures, and experiences in the U.S., and non-international students who have furthered their education by studying or doing research abroad will let you in on their adventures.

Event: International Film Festival:  The Concert 
Date: Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at 8:00 PM
Location: UC 126
Description: In this new comedy Andrei Filipov, a once celebrated Russian conductor of the Bolshoi, has hit rock bottom and is now working as a depressed custodian who drinks too much.  But when he intercepts an invitation meant for his former orchestra to perform in Paris, Andrei masterminds a plan to pose as the leader of the group in order to make a triumphant return to the music scene.  Andrei sets off for Paris to fulfill his destiny and return to his glory as a great conductor.  Along the way, he will reunite with a young, beautiful violin virtuoso who holds the key to his past and his future.  In French and Russian with English subtitles.

Event: Keynote Address – “Connecting Cultures: Competency, Awareness, and Communication” by Lobna “Luby” Ismail
Date: Thursday,  November 17, 6:00-7:00 PM
Location: Salmon Library, Room 111
Description:  Luby Ismail, founder and president of Connecting Cultures, Inc., is a training specialist with over fifteen years of experience in the areas of cross-cultural communication, cultural competency, Arab and American cultures, Islamic awareness, and religious diversity. She is the author of “Doing Business in the Middle East and North Africa” and “Finding Diversity.” She is frequently used as an expert by national media and major international news programs. Ms. Ismail will discuss how cultural competency, awareness, knowledge, and skills are more essential than ever to communicating across diverse and multicultural settings. Event:  International Film Festival: I Saw the Devil
Date: Friday, November 18, 2011, at 8:00 PM

Description: Lee Byung-hyun stars as Dae-hoon, a special agent whose pregnant wife becomes the latest victim of a disturbed and brutal serial killer, captivatingly played by Oldboy’s Choi Min-sik. Vowing revenge, Dae-hoon blurs the lines between hunter and hunted and good and evil, eventually becoming a monster himself in his twisted pursuit of revenge. In Korean with English subtitles.

Event: Nashville Extravaganza
Date: Saturday, November 19, 2011, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Description:  Spend an afternoon in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, also known as “Music City.” Then visit the famous Opryland Hotel, which will be extravagantly decorated for the Christmas holiday. The transportation and events are free. Only meals and personal expenses will be on your own. All international students are encouraged to get out and do some traveling!
